Move up from D7000?

I currently have a D7000 with a Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8. I really do love this camera and it works out great for me.

However, something came up and I will have to buy a new body and lens(es). Should I purchase a D7000 with the same 17-55 f/2.8 lens or move up to full frame and get the D700 and start my collection of primes (starting from the 50mm 1.4G).

I have been wanting to switch to primes for a while now but I held off because nothing really offered the 17mm coverage for my D7000. I've also read online that the D7000 is pretty much better in every aspect compared to the D700 EXCEPT the D700 obviously has FX and that does mean a huge amount.

I have around 1700-1800 to spend, which can either get me the D7000 and 17-55 or a D700 with a 50mm 1.4.

Movie mode isn't a huge dealbreaker to me, but I do occasionally shoot videos. What do you guys think? I'm not restricted to Nikon, either. I guess this is also an opportunity for me to switch to Canon with either the 7D or 5DII. Although, I do have a couple SB-800's and other Nikon speedlights to sell if I were to do so.

Are you a big fan of really wide angle?

If so then it's clear that you won't be happy without a full frame camera. 24mm on a FF is 16mm on a crop body, as you know, so a 14-24mm f/2.8 [FONT=Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif]really sings on a FF body.[/FONT]

Can you please send me link to where you're finding D700's and lens's at that price? I need a back up body to replace my D80 =)

Can you please send me link to where you're finding D700's and lens's at that price? I need a back up body to replace my D80 =)

Hey, those prices are not for new gear. Check your local craigslist and you should be able to find a D700 for around 1500-1600 and the 50mm for around $300

Decided to pick up another D7000. Reason being I got a killer deal on it ($730 for a brand new body)

They've bumped up the price $200 now. Fantastic timing on my part though
