movies downloaded sideways

[zapper]

I took several short movies recently, some of which were with the camera held vertically-when those were imported to my PC they were sideways.
So is this a no no and why technically? Thanks!

If you have Windows Movie Maker (comes with Windows) there is a way to rotate it. The problem is that now your video will be tall instead of wide.

And will be quite small on a horizontal screen.

Wonder why they never shoot vertical orientation for TV or movies.

If you need to fit something into a video vertically, still film it horizontally and make sure you're back far enough or zoomed out enough to cover it. If you look at TVs and other video devices, most, if not all are going to be in a format with the widest end being the horizontal end. There may be some wierd formats that were used here or there that were different, but I don't personally know of any.

Thanks for replies. I guess the answer is NOT to take movies with camera held vertically.
