He's got a cute smile and a cute face!
The one and only light source is maybe not quite enough, I miss a bit of (maybe reflected?) light from the other side on him. Light falls off towards the background so fast... The teddy bear in the background goes well with a child portrait, but other elements seem to "clutter" the background, no matter how dark it turned out, like that red little triangle to his (camera)-left or the blue-white wall decoration above the sofa on the upper right.

And I tend to turn the camera into the vertical frame position for faces ... but that's me ...

Thank you. You suggestions were very helpful. I took shots both in the vertical position and horizontal position. All I had in the room was the natural light from the window and my 430ex II which was bounced off the ceiling.
