Well, it seems that it is a necessity for anyone with a camera to take photos of water drops at one point or another. After reading this thread here... http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/...ry/224421-first-macro-attempt-water-drop.html I decided to give it a try myself.

I don't have an off camera flash (yet) so I used the pop up. i hung the water bag from an old microphone stand, and used a "holographic" gift bag as a reflector. I think they turned out pretty well. No PP at all, except for a little cropping.

Please feel free to let me know what you think.

These have to be the most colorful water drop shots I've seen in a while!

Love the first, and the last is my favorite.
Look into one of the bones of composition, the tried and true, but much ignored "Rule of Thirds."

Looks great ! Love them. d7000 is treating you well eh? ;) lol

Very cool light reflections from that gift bag! Good job.

Very nice hotos you've got there! I'm just wondering, what settings/gear did you use for this?

Thanks all for the kind words!

Here are the settings -

ISO 100
Shutter 1/250 (as fast as the popup will sync with the shutter on this camera)
F-stop - f/11
FL - 105mm (157 w/ the sensor crop)
Ambient overhead lighting above my dining room table.

Camera is a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon AS-F 18-105mm ED
Hung a bag of water from a microphone stand, poked a hole in it with a sewing needle, and allowed it to drip into a black bucket of water. Bounced flash off of one of two different dollar store gift bags, one gold and red, the other blue and green. Camera on a tripod, shutter activated by remote.

Pretty simple really, no big bells and whistles, no expensive extras. Just the camera and stuff I had lying around the house. I had a blast.

Glad I gave you the idea to try it out:D You have some really nice results! Really the idea of the dollar store bag is quite impressive! Those are some seriously colorful drops! Good job! Definitively beat me on that one ;)

Those are some really nice shots. The color you achieved is awesome. I agree with Bitter Jeweler that the last one is my favorite.

Love the color, but it looks like you've missed the focus on a couple here. I love #2 and #4 though. Check out my Flickr I got some water droplets on there and also some photos of my setup. Hope it can help.

Thanks for all the kind words! I got lucky on this one that the setup was set in front of me in the form of a you tube vid, but I had a lot of fun and learned a bit to boot. It's nice being so new to the world of photography as opposed to just snapping pictures. I can learn something around every corner without even trying!
