I think its pretty good...but probably just because they are mine :) My husbands face is not in a very flattering postion and it would have been better if my sons fingers were not in his mouth. This is the first day i used my 50 1.4.

I love the look on your sons face, it is very cute! What do you think of the 50mm 1.4? is it Canon? I’ve had the 1.8 myself, and thinking about getting the 1.4...

Back to the photo :) I wish I could see some more of your husbands face, maybe the cap is ruining it a little... I also noticed some Chromatic Abberation in the photo (see around his hat), this is easy to fix in post production as lightroom, aperture and software like that have adjustments for it.

But overall it is an okay picture, again, wish I could see some more of your husband, I think that would’ve made it 10x better ;) Nonetheless, keep up the good work, you have an amazing subject there ;)

Cute!

Make your husband take off his hat from now on! I think it would have been stronger if you could see more of his face and if he wasn't wearing a hat. The horizon is slightly slanted but it's easy to fix in post.

My boyfriend always wears a hat and I make him take it off now. It leaves a horrid shadow across the eyes and forehead.

How do you like the new lens?

It's the nikon 50 1.4 and it's great!

I have no idea what chromatic abberation is?? Guess I will have to look it up and figure out how to fix it. Thanks:)

I have not had a chance to use the lens very much but so far I think it's great:) and no more hats! Got it;) and do you mean unslant the entire pic or just the background?

You'd have to do the whole picture. In photoshop there's this ruler tool and you draw a line along the horizon and it will crop and straighten it. I wouldn't worry to much about it in this picture. Not positive but it might crop some of your husband out.

Ok I edited this in paint shop pro I will have to figure out how to do that for future pics. Thanks

It's soft because you shot at F1.6 and missed focus, F4/5.6 would have been much better

Everybody does that when they get their 50! She'll figure it out!

Yes but i think she has been her long enough to know

I agree but she was probably just trying it out. I know she's heard not to shoot wide out open but she probably wanted to try it herself.

I shoot wide open all the time to practice focusing. It's probably not the best way to do it but I have gotten a lot better at it. Most of my pictures shot like that are meant for the trash anyways.

Don't forget, there is a knowledge requirement after being here for 2 whole months.

Wow really?? Just because I have been on this forum a couple months means I should know better?? Interesting! Ya i have read not to shoot wide open and actually from Megan but she isn't like I told you so! It was the first time to use my lens... Guess I should have know better and not even posted that pic.

Don't worry about it. Everybody does it and like I told you before - you can take beautiful pictures shooting wide open. If you go to my profile you can see all the threads I've started - check out my most recent pictures. I guarantee they were probably shot wide open and close to it. Just because you've heard that you shouldn't shoot wide open doesn't mean you can't try it or that you can't get nice pictures.

It's a picture of your husband and son - who cares if it's not tack sharp!

You'll get that a lot. Don't sweat it. Some people expect a lot out of beginners.
