this was my first attempt with my new ab400, i am new to studio lights...i usually use my sigma off camera so any help on how better my self is appreciated

rebel xt sigma 18-200 os
1/125 sec @ f8 (i think) cant remember
ab400 into white 30" umbrella about 5' to camera right about 3' above baby

im having trouble getting the eyes in sharp focus

What a cutie! She's so sweet. I really want to see her face closer, though - she has such a pretty smile.

Very cute smile, but I think the lighting setup that way seems kind of harsh for her. I expect you want gentle soft lights and not too much contrast. Also the brown backdrop she's on isn't doing a lot for the composition, I don't think.

Congrats on the kid. You've got a built-in model now.

Oh something else to think about, is you probably want a more direct-on shot to her face... she's looking well above the plane of focus of the camera. I would bring the camera up like 20-30 degrees so you get the full of her face looking right at you.
