My first attempt at Bokeh for C&C

You should try your "bokeh" shots during the day using a a large aperture. it will be alot easier than light exposure shots at night.

I agree, try during daylight.

Thanks for the info guys, now I understand what "bokeh" is better, I understand why you said try during the daytime.

AHA!! Now I see. Finally, dawn lights on marble head. Thanks for the explanation. I'll definitely try during the daytime, and I will also try and hunt up some small lights to try this with. Thanks.

pointy lights can be often highlights, more than obvious christmas lights.
Look here for a quick example with a suggestion of what to use to have easy highlights to play with.

Perfect. Thanks again. I will try it.

you are all such great help when it come to people needing it. I am glad that I joined this group. Now if I had my 5 posts in i would be able to post some pics of my own.. Thanks again everyone for making this site great.

bokeh is not a proper noun.

I would call these attempts at DOF, not bokeh.

Get some Christmas lights in a more controllable environment.

Regarding the out of focus issue, just throwing this out there, but did you use a lens with Optical Stabilization (OS)? If you use a tripod with the OS on it can actually cause vibration. You need to turn it off when using a tripod.

just a suggestion in case you haven't considered that.

Thanks Mr Pink. Obviously my efforts at DOF failed:blushing:, but I will come back stronger next time.
I'll try the lights and see what happens.

I was using my canon 50mm f/1.4. I don't believe that it has IS. I've seen in other posts that the IS has to be turned off to stop that ever so slight shake from the motors in those lenses.

i think there's something with lights sitting
