My first B&W

I'm new to B&W, but this image just seamed to work better in Black and White than Color. I converted in in Aperture. I hope I did it ok. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance for looking.

it is flat and not very sharp, it has potential imho but i would crop out that metal in the foreground and go back to curves and tweak for contrast.

what method did you use to convert?
