My cousin asked me to take pictures at his girlfriends baby shower this weekend. I'm excited and I wanna do a good job. Any tips from the Vets? I want to set up a place to take pictures, I was thinking wall paper and balloons. I also bought the canon selphy printer and plan to bring that with me and sell prints at $2.

I would first check with the cousin to make sure they are OK with you selling prints and making a profit at the shower.

$2 probably barely covers cost but check 1st is a good reccommendation. Have fun.

Yup he's cool with it and he even offered to pay me. I went over in detail with him with what I wanted to try and do. I just want to stick with their theme which is Teddy bears. I'm just not sure on the lighting, props and how many pictures I should give them.

I work at a retail store and got 50 4x6 for 1.50. And he said he'll pay me $40 for the baby shower. I'm just not sure how many prints I should hove them. The $2 pictures are for the guest that want pics for themselves.

Shoot candid photos of the event. Put the images on a disc and give it to them with a card that says congratulations.

I might just give them that to. I know he asked me was I going to get the pics printed out the fee. The place I go to is only .24 a pic for a 4x6

Don't take your camera in the shower

I think if you are inexperienced in this type of work then you shouldn't charge for it especially since it is your cousin. I agree with give the pics on a CD in a card as a gift. If things turn out well then maybe you could post the proofs and get orders printed for the guests. That is how I would do it.

I charging to fund my hobby. To get better. He told me he'll pay me anyway when I said I'll do it for free. I have equipment, classes and etc.. To pay for that really can not be coming out my pocket. I'm on a budget just like pretty much most of the newbies on this forum. I think $40 is reasonable for a 3-4 hour baby shower, 40-50 pics edited and printed and my props.

That is fair. I was just giving you my opinion. Just curious what costs are you talking about out of your pocket?

Someone actually wants to pay you to take photos at a baby shower? That seems odd to me. Not that it's wrong... but I personally would not pay for a photo at a shower, I would just use my own camera.....

I want a new lens and a external flash for my canon soon. I can't really afford to much now because of my budget and I'm in college. Plus my ink for my printer is 34.99. Just to cover them expenses. Plus the photography class I'm trying to get into once the semester is done is $129 for like 6 weeks.

as far as 'tips from the Vets' (now mind you i've never served so take it with a grain of salt) my tip would be to learn about photography before you started ripping off your family and their friends..

I'm not ripping him off. I do most of my photography for FREE. Especially if I ask you, I've been practicing on my own for a few months and putting Pics on my FB page of what I can do. If you ask me to take pictures of you I will charge you for my effort. It's the same as going to a big name studio and having a newbie take your pictures. Your not going to say he's ripping you off are you? I know my friends and family CC is different from a train vet. But everyone has to start somewhere. I'll post a few pics of when I'm done with the event for CC.
