My first PAID FOR shots...think I did ok?

So, I tried again...another photo shoot, lights still very new to me. Went with a white backdrop and white "props".

How do these look?

Very little PP, just a little clarity/contrast...

Very well taken/lit/composed pics although I'm not sold on the orange prop in the 1st 2 - I would have thought it would have been better without it...........?

The "prop" was a ball, actually belonging to the baby...it was part of the warm-up, really. The parents like it, anyway.

Well, they are bright, but dunno about overexposed...that was sort of the look I was going for, anyway.

Thanks for the "great composition" comment...means a lot as I was most worried about posing the clients today.

ha ha, yes. I do have some that are not hi-key...but these were meant to be like this...

Not too bad for unfamiliar lights and little experience with them. The expressions are good, and parents are MUCH more concerned about expression than they are about technical quality. The baby seems to have a rather hot spot on the top of his head, and there are some slightly hot spots, but I put that down to the exact, specific processing of the images. The tummy pose of little William will probably meet with approval by his parents. Same with the shots of the older boy.

Thanks, Derrel...was waiting for your take on these. Yes, there are hotspots, but they are less to do with processing than what I got in-camera. They were shot a little hi key (i think that's what it is). I have others that weren't...

I think I actually used YOUR advice (more or less) for this...I used a light above my head (on-axis, did you call it?)...the fill was to the left of the shot, again, quite high. I had a softbox on it, without diffuser (someone else's suggestion).

Anyway, I am very pleased with it...and the parents are well pleased with the couple of taster shots I sent them a while ago. Going to give them a CD with small copies of everything, and le them choose from there (for more money, after the first handful of shots). Was grateful to them for letting me use them as guinea pigs!

I know you said you were going for bright and high key, but these are overexposed. The red channel is blown on the baby's forehead in #3 and quite possibly in the boy's cheek in #1.

How did you set your WB? The skin tones seem to be a little off, as well.

It seems that people have different opinions. The baby does have hotspots - I think the lack of hair and so on causes it to be like that. It's the same lighting for both kids, but no hotspots on the big lads hair?

I set WB from a photo of the white sheet. No one else noticed that the skin tones are off? I thought they looked ok...

Anyway, the parents are extremely happy, so at least I got that to think about.

I think if you had gone with another BG color, the white blanket, the white Bg, are all going to reflect that light, as they did here.
Try a solid darker color, not too dark, but enough so that it absorbs the light as opposed to shooting it back at you?
The youngster could have been sitting up as well. avoiding the hot areas around him.

Thanks. The background does need something, I agree, however, the parents like these so I got away with it!

The baby wouldn't sit...this was the only thing we got with him alone. The boy did a lot of other poses...just need to process those.
