My first photo for C&C: Summer Moon

This was obviously quite accidental, but I much liked the results. If you ever wonder why they make swimming diapers, it's because pull-ups bloat to about 2000% once submerged

At any rate, I thought the shot came out well, and am especially curious if you feel that I should crop in a bit to remove some of the empty space. Any other suggestions are well appreciated!

I didn't think about that. Shallow waters in Lake Michigan can be nice for recreation... but perhaps not terribly for photos.

For composition... Crop it so he's not centered. Since he is looking to the left... Crop it at his right side so all the dead space is to the left.

I think you like the result because this is your child or someone close to you's child. Its pretty snap shotty to me. Centered subject, lots of empty, wasted space etc..

I played with it a bit to remove some of the open space, including the bronze water and added open space to the side where he was looking. Does this improve things, or do you think it's a lost cause? You're absolutely right; I like the results because it was a good memory... now how to best record that memory...
