So I finally decided to set aside some time for my first non-candid photography outing.
I asked my friend Amanda to model for me and headed to a park near our University

The main thing I learned is that one should know how much time they have to shoot. The reason I only have 5 photos on flickr is that I totally forgot about daylight savings time and wound up with about an hour less of good light to work with so after a while even with the 50mm f/1.7 (my fastest lens) I couldn't compensate for the darkness and my AF was ineffective anyway

What do you guys think?

I think the first one is a little underexposed. In the second, I wish her bangs were not covering her eyes. That ruins the shot for me.

I have mixed feelings about it

I kinda like it on the left side and find it unfortunate on the right because her iris is obscured

Not too bad. I think that #2 might benefit from a different crop, maybe a vertical one?

In the first one, she has too many straps showing. If it's non-candid, I think you need to watch for little details like that. Otherwise, it's technically fine, but there's just nothing particularly interesting or unusual about it - just a nice profile of a pretty girl.

I quite like the 2nd one - it's a fun pose, and the bangs thing doesn't bother me at all. Maybe just crop it tighter.

I agree, it's underexposed, and my display is calibrated on a regular schedule.

I cropped with her eye on the ROT left vertical , corrected the white balance, adjusted the exposure of heer, and did some minor this and that:

I'm not sure I like all of KmH's revisions. I think the crop on the ROT left vertical is fine, but the photo now contains some noise and has a softer focus. I also do not like the skin softening on her neck below her hairline because it looks a bit blurry. Just my $0.02.
YMMV.

I don't like the bangs in her eyes... Also she's got a decent size honker having a side profile is probably not the best for her.
