for single car shots 5.6 apertre works, for group ones 11 higher, right?

i am fine with my lense, for now...

300sh for some lighting gear? can you give me links please?

With the depth of field, it all depends on what you want in focus.. and how you want the image to turn out.. If you want the focus just to be on one car.. You should be shooting with a higher aperature [like 5.6 as you mentioned.. although your 50 should go higher]

Could go to a local book store and look over their photography books, might find one you'd like to learn from.
