yeah, i love the 18-55 for closer wider shots for portraits and whatnot, that 70-300 was a little bit more money than what i was willing to spend, im fine with the 55-200 for now, ive had the camera for 3 years i thought it was time for something new
Just a heads up, and this is pretty simple stuff, but you generally won't want to use an 18-55 for portraits. Even at 55mm your still talking about some noticeable distortion on your subject. If thats what your going for, great, but if its not then use your 55-200 set closer to the 70mm+ range. You'll still have depth in your photos, but they'll come out nicely flattened for elements that would normally show distortion using a wider lens.
As for a 75-300, that focal length of lens isn't bad, but its generally not the sharpest regardless of manufacturer, its more the technical downfalls of the lens design. In the case of the 70-300, however, that is a tack sharp lens. Its just important to make a distinction between the two.
