My First trip to L&D #14.....

After seeing Eric's latest set, well, I tried.......It was -8 with the windchill....teleconverter really softens up that 300mm F2.8 L..Mike

Nice shots , glad you made it over there .... what extender are you using? the Canon Extender should match up pretty well with the Canon 300 MM 2.8.

After reading your exif data, I noticed you only had a shutter speed of 1/500th. I always try to shoot nothing less than 1/1000 (for birds in flight) and around F 8. And there at L/D 14 when the sun is out I go about 2/3 or a full stop - EC so I dont blow out the whites on the heads and tails and as the days goes on when you get the golden light at around 4:15 to 4:45 I bring it back up closer to even. That light at the end of the day is just awesome hope you got to see that .

Thanks, jtee, I was using the 1.4x Canon, but this lens/camera combination does not like it at all. Lens and camera work VERY well at airshows, that's how I learned NOT to use the teleconverter! I use AI servo and one center focus point, but with the 300, if it doesn't look big in the viewfinder , it focuses back and forth from water, to sky, to dam, to water......There was quite a crowd there for a weekday afternoon, I was amazed, would hate to be there on a weekend. Met some very nice people....Mike

Glad you had a good time ,it is the best place for getting fishing Eagles, I am surprised at how the 1.4 did with your 300 MM 2.8 it is said to be an excellent match with the 2X Extender, so I just figured it would take well with 1.4.
