They were yelling out the windows as passers-by, "WE'RE GETTING MARRIED!" Was kinda funny.

These are the creative aspects, especially the first one; it is not the theme you shoot, but how different and creative you go with that decides whether your images turn repetitive and so boring; so far not... not at all..

Thanks, Frequency! :)

manaheim, the shots you've taken, to be honest, are weak on their own. These shots will only go with something else.

Ok, here's an example, for shot number 1. It would work excellent if you had a 2nd shooter who was outside taking a shot of the girls looking staring at something. Then you take the two shots and put them side by side and it'd tell a story. Suppose they were staring at the father of the bride outside or the groom coming in to the church?

2nd shot. I'm guessing that's the bride? That shot would go well with her having her makeup put on while she's holding the glass then you take a close up of her just holding the glass. Put them together and VOLA!

3rd. Entire cake then a close up. OR just different close up shots to make one whole image. Suppose you took 8 different pictures of parts of the cake. Put them in 4 columns and 2 rows or 1:1 ratio images to make it an entire picture. How does that sound?

I'm not going to say the shots were bad because they were good shots, as far as exposures go and the editing. But for a first time shooter, you probably didn't even think of all this. I wouldn't have either but now that I'm getting more and more creative in my head, they all just click to me.

Hey, good comments. I appreciate them. I actually DO have some other shots these would go with (some such as you have suggested), but this was just a small subset so they're not all showcased.

It's probably also important to mention I was the secondary photographer on the scene, so the guy running primary has a lot of these too.

Still... interesting ideas that you brought up that make me think of things that I could possibly do intentionally vs. just coincidentally because we happen to have some of the rest of the story in some other shots we took. :)

Thanks for the comments.

i like the texture and colors in the hat pic

I believe the 3rd shot is underexposed. there is no pop to it?
the first shot is fun but like the other person said it would need another shot in an album to tell the rest of the story

Another note! Great focus! Pic are clean! Good job for a 2nd shooter

Even in this forum i used to mentioning about some images that they independently does not make a story, but as a part of a sequence is relevant; but my personal feeling is that it is not applicable here especially for the first case, because it tells the story completely. From their dresses and stance it is very clear they are stealing a look at something during a wedding ceremony, where, probably, they don't want their presence to be revealed. At a marriage function several events of interest happens at various places; we are not interested into which event they are focusing.... if that is revealed, sometimes the fun is lost. In art all things are not always meant to be wide open. This is my feeling about it

Regards :D

Maybe as part of a full set these work but as 3 shots on their own they do not work for me,to be honest they could easily have been accidental shutter releases because there appears to be no balanced composition about them

Thanks. I have to give some credit to the Nikkor 24-70 2.8 I was using for the sharpness. It's a HELL of a lens. That said, I'll take some credit myself for knowing how to use it. :)

The flowers on that third shot are a little darker so that I didn't blow out the cake. It was a specific choice I made. I could have brought it up a bit but I like the balance of detail and exposure as it is.

Damn weddings are a constant excercise in bringing up this... without losing that. :)

Interesting. See, I kinda liked the shot of the girls looking out the window because it made me say "what the heck are they looking at?" and was kinda funny. I DO like the previous poster's suggestion about setting up a series of shots to tell a story, and his idea on what to do with this one was neat... however, I liked this particular one the way it was.

So, yeah... I see your point.

This is a nice discussion, everyone. Thanks!

nice pics

Thanks. :)

hahaha... I would love to see your pictures if you think these are accidental or could have been. You can say a lot of stuff about my pictures, but "accidental" is pretty hysterical. You'd have to know me better to understand, but... meh.

They seem as balanced to me as I would think appropriate, and as suits my personal taste. I happen to think my taste in this case generally fits the norm, so I'm curious what you see about them as unbalanced. How would you do them differently?

I was just giving my opinion if you cant take critisism without getting stroppy then why post on such a site

Did you not read my second paragraph? I was genuinely asking how you felt they were not balanced. Sure, I think your comments are funny, but funny doesn't mean I've kicked you to the curb. Relax.

If I was gonna get snarky, I'd get snarky about someone with 39 posts telling someone with 5000+ how to (or not to) behave on TPF. ;)

Love the photo of the cake, very interesting angle!

Thanks! I was pretty pleased with that one, myself. Glad someone else liked it. :)

Notice the shadows on the cake from your on camera flash. Characteristics like this make a photographer's work indistinguishable from that of a guest.
