Notice the shadows on the cake from your on camera flash. Characteristics like this make a photographer's work indistinguishable from that of a guest.

hahahhaha... wow.

10 points, dude. That was probably the most obnoxious comment I've seen on TPF today.

I dunno, but I'm fairly certain a guest wouldn't be bouncing an SB800 off the ceiling to diffuse and soften the light, and turning down the flash to compensate for the fact that the cake happened to be shoved into this squirrely little corner under what was probably the lowest ceiling in the house.

But hey... you're probably right. I should probably just have grabbed one of the disposable cameras off one of the tables and fired away.

Please accept my sincere apology. It's the kind of thing that could have been politely pointed out in person, but online...it's hard. I meant no offense.

Even though you bounced the light is still a little harsh, hence the hard shadows.

I'm glad you like it.

Best.

s'okay, man. No skin off my back, no hard feelings.

I see the shadow you're referring to. Now that I think about it, I still had my "tupperware" diffuser on the flash, so some amount of more direct/more close light was probably hitting the cake than I intended.

Thanks for the comments (and the followup) :)

manaheim, the shots you've taken, to be honest, are weak on their own. These shots will only go with something else.

Ok, here's an example, for shot number 1. It would work excellent if you had a 2nd shooter who was outside taking a shot of the girls looking staring at something. Then you take the two shots and put them side by side and it'd tell a story. Suppose they were staring at the father of the bride outside or the groom coming in to the church?

2nd shot. I'm guessing that's the bride? That shot would go well with her having her makeup put on while she's holding the glass then you take a close up of her just holding the glass. Put them together and VOLA!

3rd. Entire cake then a close up. OR just different close up shots to make one whole image. Suppose you took 8 different pictures of parts of the cake. Put them in 4 columns and 2 rows or 1:1 ratio images to make it an entire picture. How does that sound?

I'm not going to say the shots were bad because they were good shots, as far as exposures go and the editing. But for a first time shooter, you probably didn't even think of all this. I wouldn't have either but now that I'm getting more and more creative in my head, they all just click to me.

I like your comments. Now i learn something from this forum. Thanks
