So, I have been watching a lot of youtube videos, reading articles, forums, talking with people, etc, but I have not had much time to shoot pics So, I have been watching a lot of youtube videos, reading articles, forums, talking with people, etc, but I have not had much time to shoot pics the last few months. I have however been collecting quite an arsenal of goodies.

For Christmas I bought myself a D7000 kit with an 18-140mm lens. I wanted more zoom so I picked up a D3100 kit with the 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses from a friend of mine for next to nothing (under 500 clicks on the shutter also!)

In the last 2 weeks I picked up a 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S,50mm f/1.8 AF-D, 60mm f/2.8D, 2 SB-700 speedlights, and an SB-600 as well.

I will eventually buy a nice wide angle lens, but for now, I think I am set. I am slowly picking up how to use some ofthe functions on the D7000 and I just ordered the D7000 for dummies book. I mainly got the 3100 for the lenses, but I was hoping that my wife would get into taking photos with me, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Anyway, just thought I would post a picture (taken with my cell phone, lol) of my gear and I am looking forward to getting feedback on my shots.

Congrats on the growing gear! I know nothing of Nikon, being a Canon kind of girl, bit it looks pretty sweet (:
Also, if you wanted to do something fun to show off your gear and practice post editing, you could always line your cameras one by one in front of a solid colored wall and then add them all in next to each other in PhotoShop! That way you can show off your gear without losing image quality by using your cell phone! Its great practice.

You're pretty well set for flashes! Are you planning on buying some swivel mounts and umbrellas, or a softbox or two, and getting into off-camera flash stuff? The 60mm f/2.8 AF-D is a VERY sharp, high-resolution lens! Make sure to confirm accurate focus with it though, especially on importnant, or longer-distance shots at ranges beyond about 6 feet, it has hair-trigger focusing, and I've found can have a 15-20 percent chance of slightly missed focusing unless used realllly diligently.

Nice gear, i cant wait to see the great photos you are going to share with us. Whats your favorite lens so far?

I haven't used any of them much, but that 18-140 is great!

You had the 18-140 and you wanted more zoom..
Now you have the 18-55 and the 55-500, maybe you should get an 18-70, and 18-105 and the 18-135 then you will have tons of zoom!

Nah, I have the 70-300 now. That's pretty good for now :)

yeah, lol, I was joking around. The 18-140 is considerably better than the 18-55. The 70-300 is also considerably better than the 55-200, so you do have a lot of overlap. Just be careful of GAS or you might have a lot of lenses sitting around collecting dust.. :)

I put the 2 kit lenses back with the 3100. Those will be back ups or for anyone that wants to tag along when I go scouting for things worth taking shots of. Speaking of which, its a pretty clear night, I might try and snap a few shots of the moon when work slows down some

I do not have photoshop yet. I have never used it, but I am looking to buy a copy for my macbook very soon

I thouight the best deal was this kit: Studio Lighting Photography Light Backdrop Stand Background Photo Light Set Kit | eBay

With three umbrella swivel mount holders, you'd have three light stands, and two of the odd, 24x24 square "umbrella softboxes", and the one 33-inch diameter reflecting umbrella, plus the stands and backdrops and crossbar. For under $80. Umbrella swivel mount holders are like $20 a piece, so, that is another $60...

I am NOT sold on the fluorescent lights and their holders, but they come with the setup.

Same reason Fruit Loops are $6 a box and fruity rings are 1.99, lol
