Not really a C&C, just sharing...

I'm a vet tech, and today at work, we received a call from a farm supply store next door.

A customer had returned a bunny, saying it had Snuffles (a not-so-good upper respiratory infection they get easily). The store asked the dr. if he would euthanize the bunny...

After coming back from lunch, and seeing him in a cage, I asked the dr. if I could take the bunny home and try to treat him, since he still looked fairly healthy (he was eating and still seemed curious and friendly). He agreed, and I took him home...

No Name by Amazon Cheesecake, on Flickr

I believe he is a dwarf lionhead. Not sure how old, but still pretty young.

If he makes it through his illness, I am most likely going to give him to my little sister, or give him to a classroom... We'll see. I may just grow too attached. :p

Still working on a name... A friend suggested Nivens (the White Rabbit's name from Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland), which I like so far...

What do you have to do to try to treat this cute fur ball?

Feed him well, keep him as free of stress as possible, and give him oral medication (Baytril) twice a day for the next 14-30 days, depending on how he does. I've also been trying to keep his nose clean so he can breathe ok, as they tend to get a stuffy nose as a symptom.

I figured even if he has a little bit of a rough road ahead to get through this, he deserves a chance, rather than just bein put to sleep.

One of the reasons I'm not going to keep this little furball: My lab has been lying beside his cage for the past two hours, watching curiously and whining (the rabbit could care less, and continues nibbling on his greens). She would not hurt him, but she is very fascinated by small animals, and I'm afraid she may starve to death sitting there watching him! Lol!

Very admirable work what you do!

Thank you. I have learned that it definitely takes the right personality to work in this field. It can be very stressful, both physically and mentally.

i like nivels, but i like real names that are a bit off the beaten track.

Being a big fan of Alice in Wonderland, I'd say Nivels sounds wonderful~! :)

If you ever have a chance to read the annotated version of Alice in Wonderland, it's excellent. There's much more to it than most people know.

I like those type of names, too. That's why Snuffles (even though it's ironic :p ), FLuffy, and such names I don't like as well.

It's not Nivels, is it? I looked it up and they have Nivens McTwisp.

I'm an avid reader, yet I have never read those books. I will have to in the future. :)

Be careful, he's no ordinary bunny rabbit. He's got huge, sharp fangs... look at the bones!

Best of luck in his treatment! Hope all goes well and you're able to hand him off to a nice home. Btw, I like Nivens quite a lot! Seems that'd be a good choice. :)
