Beautiful,. I'm incredibly jealous, although I've seen two or three in my lifetime, I've never taken a shot of one.

Aw look at the drop on his head! Good to see them back Don :)

That one doesn't look like it's been missing many meals

I'm cooking up some hummingbird food right now, i'll hang the feeder tomorrow

At the very least put out a feeder :)

I don't bother "cooking" their food, 2 cups of sugar in a gallon container, fill with hottest water from the tap and store in the frig. I'll be watching for your posts !

I like the composition and the shot but they both look a bit hazy to me. Can this be fixed in PP?

Thanks, I suppose they could be fixed but why ?

Worst possible light, heavy crop, rain on the window, missed focus, etc.

Cheers, Don

Nicely done through glass. They are one of the birds I would love to have a crack at, mabye one day I'll get the chance. Love small birds and the colours in these beauties are magical in the way the light bounces off them.

All the best and good shooting.

Danny.

I have! Don't have one here but getting one. I had one before, out on the deck and the one time the hummingbird showed up, I knew that if I got up to go get the camera, it would leave. Since it was the first time I ever saw one, I wasn't going anywhere.

The second time, same thing. I did go get the camera and it left. Never saw it again :(

Question about the food, do you color it? Or just leave it clear?

Leave it clear, Barb - they'll find it regardless, especially if the feeder itself is red. :) I've used clear liquid food for years, trust me they'll still love it.

I love the second shot in particular, Don! The lighting is better, and you still see that tiny drop AND those tiny, curled feet!

They are among my favorite birds...tiny and ferocious.

Never color it, it is bad for their kidney's. I use 1 cup of sugar to 4 cups of water and store in fridge. Within 30 minutes of hanging the feeder this morning they were back :)

Please, NO coloring...

It isn't necessary and it may harm them.

Just be patient Barb, after a while they will come to feed even if you are sitting there.

One of lifes little thrills is the sound their wings make :)

Cheers, Don

Don , the sound is amazing. The first one scared the crap out of me. I heard it before I saw it and thought its was a giant wasp. I'm terrified of wasps! It was a beautiful iridescent green one. It was gorgeous.

I do believe they are attracted to the color red so most of the feeders are red so feel free to hang some red ribbon from it too
