What's new

My hummers have returned :)

I do believe they are attracted to the color red so most of the feeders are red so feel free to hang some red ribbon from it too

^ +1. Red ribbon, red garden flag, basket of red flowers, even a red dishcloth hanging near the feeder can help them "target" in on your feeder.

Says the person who has YET to get ONE hummer in their yard. Bother.
I'm planning to get a good hummingbird watering dish next and see if that helps--they like to have a source of moving water.

I'd be perfectly pleased with these shots, Don, because at least it means you have Hummers!

Sharon, I'm surprised you haven't gotten any in your area - in Tennessee, you should be inundated with the ruby throats.

All we've ever done is hang simple red-colored feeders and put in clear liquid hummer food we've bought from either the American Birding Society or Audubon. Some years they are more plentiful than in others, but we never fail to get them, and once they've discovered your feeder, they get very territorial.

I should mention this will be my first summer shooting hummingbirds with Nikon gear after selling off my Olympus stuff.

With only two males in evidence so far and infrequent feeding visits I've been shooting them through the patio door when they visit as I work at my desk.

The bad news is the best I can do is side light but the good news is my editing skills are getting a good work out.
