I think the black, detail-less hair patches and the blown, out of focus highlights, and the detail-less, all-black eyes are hurting the image. The photo seems to me to have excessively high contrast for such a delicate subject.

I actually wanted to include the window to increase perspective of the light source, hence the landscape orientation. Could of been better if I could get that window straight but you know kids; very hard to capture the moment.

there is odd shadowing in her face and I think her complexion looks detail-less rather than flawless.

HI, she's a child with natural good skin, I do not want my little sister to look like a doll, hence I went easy on the blemishing and preserve some natural details. Yes there is a shadow, but I tend to leave it as it avoid making her face look flat.

I like it. I think her little pose is so sweet. I love how her hair is illuminated by the window behind. I like the horizontal crop on this. With the window (context) I get the feel that she is at school...possibly first day?. It is a little crooked and could use some straightening. You could also lift the shadows a tiny bit to better define her hair. Her skin seems a tiny bit cool so I would add a little warmth too. Cute shot!
