My Love..

Was at my daughters Tball game last night and saw an opportunity to get a good shot of my wife. I thought it turned out well, but as always I will take suggestions.

What is it that you like about this picture? The first thing I see is the siding and the vertical white stripe on the right. It's a good exercise in playing with foreground objects but when you do this, the foreground needs to be interesting.

I like the composition. It is simple, yet i feel it brings your eyes right to her. The fence on the right perhaps could have been cropped a little tighter so that vertical line was gone. I also enjoy the DOF of the photo. I realize I have an emotional attachment to the photo with it being my wife. I just felt I executed a lot of things I have been trying to work on.


Do you feel this crop is better? Its a bit tighter, and I straightened it up some according to the fence pole.

wow, all I did was crop the photo in PSE and saved it. The second upload looks like it has different colors then the first. A bit more washed out.

For me it doesn't say "Love" it says "bystander" which is as far away from love as you might get. The fence is a barrier and it makes it a cold subject in my view. It takes more than DOF to make your wife the subject

to someone with no personal knowledge of anything other than the image, this seems like you're taking private eye recon photos. Not a loving picture of your wife.

I agree; plus she is wearing glasses so the argument 'it brings you right to her eyes' really doesn't work. I think next time you should sit and watch her for a bit, wait until she shows emotion/excitement about your daugher hitting the ball or what not. I think the cold metal fence combined with the blown out shirt and dark glasses really convey the opposite of love...maybe prison gaurd lol.

I guess I should have thought more about my title. I forgot the impact of a title on a picture. Take away the word love and I would have received different feedback on the picture. Lesson learned.

Not really, it would have still looked like a private eye recon shot. You know what was going on there, you feel differently about it. People who just see the image see steel fence, woman with arms crossed, looking away, with sunglasses on and no real discernable expression on her face.

Yes, my point exactly about my lesson learned. My choice of title is as equally important as the photo itself. If i had named it "my private eye recon shot", it would make a lot more sense to you, right?
