my niece and new editing style

Dare I say these are 'snapshots'? I took them while on a family trip to missouri last week. I edited them in LR using curves for the first time...what do you think?

I love the warm b&w in the second photo. The composition and lighting is great as well.

The first three could use more contrast/black point.....or leave them alone, they have a bit of an old fashioned look as is.
The last one looks about "right"....whatever that is .
2 and 4 are really cute shots.

I usually want more kick from b&w photos but #2 looks wonderful. The faded look works well with this one.

thanks, I probably did. This is an extreme crop...the original photo had two kids sitting on a step. The other kid (my daughter) looked funny but I wanted to try and salvage it!

thanks for all the comments! As you can see I was experimenting with the 'matte' look. To get more contrast you think I should just up contrast? Or add in more blacks?

when you up the contrast you may wanna adjust other areas as well to compensate for lost detail

Black point contrast and fill is a recipe, unique to each photo.
Play with them until it looks good as evidenced by your eye and confirmed with the histogram.

Agreed. 2 and 4 are my favorites. 3 is cute (Cindy-Lou Who anyone?) but the top of her hair is cut off. Love the expression though. Good work!

I know that pissed me off too :lol. But I suppose with toddlers you take what you can get
