What's new

My philosophy is ver close to this guys.

Nothing like a firm grasp of the obvious...Funny how there's nothing but Canon merch showcased...

Amd if I made the video, there’d be nothing but Pentax gear showcased. You can’t showcase what you don’t have.

Old news. Sorry.

Old news. Sorry.
Easy now - there are always new people coming along who need to and want to learn the basics of things.
Not every article or production is for the pros and sure if you've been around for a while there's nothing revolutionary in this video - so its just not for you move on and let those who are less far along their photography journey benefit.

Thanks for sharing

Excellent video and its good to see a bit of mythbusting. I always did like that show...

Yes, worth saying, every now and then.

SO many photo discussions could have been shortened considerably by making the person I was talking to watch this first.

The info is spot on. Much of it was practiced in the film days when you had 20 to36 shots in 35 mm or one before you had to flip or change the film holder with 4x5 & 8x10.
With digital I find "auto" works for many of my shots. but "aperture" or "Av" on my cameras. is a close second. The biggest drawback is, I end up with 15+ shots at various angles and exposures, simple because I can. "The next shot will be the best one" but it seldom is.

Dont dial back ! Your "15+ shots" aint nuthin !!!
Keep on keeping on ! Look critically at all those frames. I didnt watch the video as I dont need to, but whether or not its in the video one myth that needs busting is that "spray and pray" is artless, shameful, lazy, etc. Dont buy into that. Spray as much as youve got the stamina to edit and cull.

That in itself is the value of refering certain folks to this type of video. It gets incredibly tiresome trying to advise folks who have very little to zero grasp of the obvious. Let a video manage that.

When I am shooting my 4x5 view camera, from the time I grab the camera bag, set up, measure exposure, focus and frame the upside down and backwards image under the dark cloth, double check and shoot. I have puttered away 15 minutes. Often, I will shoot a couple of additional angles before packing up or moving on. From start to finish, 20 or even 30 minutes will have gone by. I do this, just for the challenge of getting things right without the aid of an "Auto" setting. Naturally, I think I have chosen my shots wisely.

In reality with film most people have a limited number of exposures they are willing to take. Even with a 36 exposer roll of 35mm, few folks are going burn up four or five shots from the same position. They take what they think was the best couple of shots at the time.

Yet with film, even at the time I am doing it, and especially on the ride home or when viewing the developed results, there are those annoying images that pop into my mind. The images that I passed on, that might have been better than the one I chose at the time.

With digital, I am quite happy to take those "what if" shots and waist a few million digital electrons. I will shoot "auto" and manual or experiment with whatever comes to mind. Then go into Photoshop etc. modify was, into what I want it to be. Two totally different mindsets adapting to the technology available at the time.
