Please let me know what you think of these. Nikon D90 + Sigma 18-50 f/2.8


Yeah, guess you can't always be in a studio environment when 'moments' happen.
A snapshot would most likely be me pointing down and pressing the shutter release button.
Even if you put thought into them, they're coming across to some viewers as being "snapshots" with post-processing. They really are GOOD snapshots. Like you said, sometimes you have to work with what's available and in an apartment, backgrounds may get cluttered even if they're blurred with a shallow depth of field. If these were meant to be portraits, furniture could be moved, etc... Additionally, the first one is around a half-stop underexposed.I disagree... a snapshot doesn't have much thought put into it. For these I handheld a strobe to get the effect I wanted, and at least for the first one - controlled the angle.

I do agree that the background isn't ideal, but sometimes you just have to work with what you have available.
