My Son Please C&C

You won't get honest opinions from most people if you show a picture and dispaly an obvious attachment because people don't want to hurt your feelings.

Are you showing this as a mommy or as a photographer?

Well I am showing it as a daddy and just asking what people think so maybe I can work on making my pictures better. I thought that is the point of posting and asking what people think?

I am not a pro that's why I have them here in the beginner section.

Traveler, playing a troll today? :D

OP, well... it ain't terribly bad, but your background is quite distracting and the image looks tilted to the left. Your background is too bright.

As I said, if you show pictures of your own children, people won't be truthful, they won't want to hurt your feelings.
If you just want memory shots of your child, what do you care what we think.

If you actually want critique and help to be a better photographer, then post pictures without the 'my son', 'my beloved progeny', 'the light of my life' stuff.

As regards the picture.
you've cropped it to be even taller and skinnier than a normal 4 x 6. I assume that's to cut out some annoying stuff on the side.
The problem is that if you want to print this, you have more decisions to make about how to crop it then.

The background is distracting and bright so it draws the eye.
The center of the picture is this huge featureless orange blob that competes with the baby for the viewer's eye.

This will always be a good memory shot of your child but it is not a good 'photograph'.

Traveler speaketh the truth.
But I'll take a shot, everything Tamasko said is correct. Little kids imo are better being active when photographed, its good excercise to chase them around or give them a toy.
Your image is clear and exposure seems good and portrait orientation is right but the image is centered, and alittle over saturated.
When in the deep shade try exposing to the background, this will darken the subject then a gentle dose of flash can make the subject pop.
Cute kid, have fun exercising. Keep shooting.

The bright orange swing is also adding an orange color cast to the child's skin.

It's a simple family happy snap, however the orange swing overpowers the baby, the bright hot spot in the background does the same. Watch the backgrounds, you see the subject in real time, but it doesn't translate into a really good photo.

It looks like he has been TANGOED and the blown background is overpowering

Thank you for the feedback everyone. I am still trying to learn as much as I can from the info from all of you.

Thank you Traveler I will make sure I do make my posts better so that I can get the feedback I am looking for.
