This is a family photo, great for remembering one you love but not a great 'photo' per se.

I love the composition, and the exposure looks pretty decent to me. I think white balance could stand to go a bit warmer, and it's definitely very soft. I'm thinking you shot this wide open. Try closing down your aperture a stop or two.

Saying this is a 'family photo' is a polite way of saying that this is not a photograph that others, besides the family, would value.
There is little detail, except in the eye-lashes and the child's skin is blanched and has no texture.
The depth of field is related to the focal length, the distance from the subject and the aperture thus, while the eyelashes are sharp, the rest of his face is out of focus.
As you learn more about your camera and the exposure triangle, you will be able to correct for this kind of thing.
