So I was inspired by the abstract/minimalist thread in the photo theme subsection. This is my very first attempt. I don't know if this would be considered abstract. Tell me what you think, and rip it up, because I am just now familiarizing myself with abstract after reading the thread yesterday and I really have no clue.

I like the idea :) I would re-shoot though because it looks like you've missed the focus.

Yeh I was wondering if it may need more Dof, the blurriness around the the edge is bugging me

I don't think it needs more DoF. It needs the part you tried to focus on, in focus. It would be quite lovely if it were.

Also, absract and minimalist are not the same thing. Try not to confuse the two because they were lumped into one thread. Look each term up on Wiki to learn more.

I shot this with my 50mm, could it be I was too close? I had camera on tripod, I'm just trying to figure out how I missed focus?
I had to keep backing up, just to get it to focus where I could release the shutter. I'm just trying to understand the dynamics.

Will do, because I am very intrigued now! I could get addicted to this. Lol

Did you have your VR on? If your using a tripod you have to turn it off because the camera gets confused.

It looks like camera shake, or motion blur. Try locking up the mirror, and using the self timer.

Abstraction can be very addictive. It reduces the image to rely solely on the elements of composition and design.

If you want, take a look at my photostream. I predominately shoot abstracts. http://www.flickr.com/photos/36117591@N04/

There are several abstract groups on Flickr as well. Go get some inspiration!

Honestly I don't know if I had it on or not!
