Nature Walk/Self Portrait

Went on a nice walk this morning through a local park. Decided it would be perfect for practicing some nature photography- especially since I have the place to myself that time of day! I came across this spot with lighting I loved, but since I didn't have anyone else to take a picture of, thought I'd just practice on myself! (Got a little workout trying to run and pose before the shutter when off![emoji4] )

Yes, shots 2,3,and 4 show pretty good concepts and good execution. I'm not keen on #1, the small waterfall. Welcome to TPF, I know you're fairly new here.

I really like the b&w and the self portrait - so much harder to do well than you realize until you try it! Great framing on both of these. Not a fan of the looking off in the distance direction of your head but I like the rest of the pose. Kudos for not being afraid to get your hands dirty (or your pants wet in this case).

You had yourself a winner I think with that crude bench and birch trees,,,,but you needed to work the scene more to bring it out. Maybe a lower viewpoint and more path? Slightly more angle from the right?


...and like SP I like the self pose.

Didereaux- Thank you! I took these all with a 50mm on a camera with an APS-C sensor, so I was having difficulties on angling for the bench picture with the narrow view. I took a few pictures of it while moving around, and decided on this one since it had all the elements I was looking for, and had the right 'feel'. I'll go back into editing and see if I can tweak it some more at your suggestions above.[emoji5]

I'm hoping to upgrade to a full sensor camera in a month or so...Much looking forward to that!

SquarePeg- Thank you! It's definitely a lot of trial and error! Thankfully I'm not afraid of a little water and dirt [emoji6]

Derrel- thanks! The waterfall picture was interesting because it was in the middle of a creek, and I was balancing on a fallen tree above it trying to capture it correctly. I think I shot it at f10 at 1/10 sec. I've never done waterfalls before, so figured this was a good 'trial'. Thankfully nothing fell into the water. [emoji2]
