Necessary to update firmware on cactus v6?

I've heard about how you can install updated firmware into these. Is this necessary? I really only use mine to fire my flashes, not to control their light output. Thank you!

I have two V6 triggers that I have not used in a while. It will suck if I cannot use the two flashes separately on different cameras at events now. (I only have one V6ii trigger) :-(
