Hi Everyone,
I am new to the site. I am an artist (drawings/paintings) and I would like to be able to document my own artwork. Currently I do hire a professional photographer about twice a year, but I am often in the situation where I need to get a painting to a client in a rush and don't have time to book the photographer.
My biggest concerns are that I need to create an image that is no smaller than 3,000 pixels on the smallest side, that the image be clear and crisp, and that the color be accurate (matches the painting as closely as possible). My paintings range up to 50x70" and the room I am shooting in is only 12 feet wide, so I don't have a lot of room to back up.
I do currently document my work on my own sometimes, but my images are not sufficient to make large prints from, and that is sometimes what is required. I know basically how to set up lights, how to shoot in RAW and convert, how to get an image that is square to the frame and how to make basic adjustments in photoshop. However, I do not know how to ensure that the color on the file I end up with is accurate.
I want to upgrade my equipment so that I can accomplish what I need to do (if it's possible within some sort of reasonable amount -- say, $3000) but I need advice on what I will need to buy and what I need to learn.
The equipment I currently have:
Tota Light Kit
tripod with leveling bubbles
Computer with Photoshop
Sekonic Flashmate L-308BII (do not know how to use this)
Canon Powershot G-10
Canon software "Digital professional" that allows conversion from RAW to Tiffs and Jpgs
I am attaching one of my recent paintings that I photographed myself using the equipment above. The image I ended up with is about 2000x4000 pixels as a TIFF, 45 MB.
