Need advice on purchasing camera

First let me start out by saying hello, I am new to the forums. I'm looking for a camera to do portraits with, also some landscape and the rare astrophotography. I'm currently considering d7200/d500/d610 but I'm really open to hearing other options and will definitely consider Canon cameras as well. I look forwards to your advice, thank you.

Welcome. Out of those three, the D7200 and D500 are usually purchased for the sports / wildlife photographer. The D610 is a fx or full frame so for what you do, that is the better choice of the three. The D750 is on sale right know and might be worth a look at $500 off which makes it the same price as a new D610.

For your needs definitely the D610 or if you can squeeze the extra for the D750
Full frame will give you better low light performance and use FX lenses for its full potential, also better DOF with FX vs DX for portrait work.

I agree with the above. I prefer the larger FX format cameras (D610,D750 especially) for their performance with the **entire** width of the Nikon lens lineup, both old, and new lenses, in all lengths that have been made for years. I learned 35mm SLR work on this format; others are perfectly fine with APS-C, like the D7200, but I do not like the wider-angle end of the DX format much.

Your lenses should count for more than the camera body itself.
