Need canon A-1 part

We have an old canon AL-1 that my parents bought before I was born. I'd really like to try it out but the latch on the battery door is broken and the local camera place says that they don't make parts any more. Does anyone have an old AL-1 that could be parted out or any ideas on how to fix this?

That's for the AL series, which is different than the A1. From your post I assume you have an AL-1. If not, there are many Canon A1 battery latches for sale on Ebay.

Diassembly and replacement should be easy to make.
