Hello and first thanks for taking your time to read and hopefully help.

ok I just got a Canon 7D and the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II telephoto zoom lens. I also have the EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens, a couple filters, batteries, cards and a remote control.

What is a good bag?

Are the back packs for cameras good? Is there enough cushion in them to protect your camera if it falls or hits a wall or something like that? I also have 2 kids..so would it be best to get a hard case? Is there such thing as a hard back pack (for carring purposes)??

If you have any advise it would be appreciated.

Thanks again in advance.
Keri

I think they are ruddy awful, but thats just me I've been shouted down on this matter before. You can't shoot out of a back pack you have to take it off your back and the such. I think they are great if you need to move the gear from the house to the car or something like that but I wouldn't take on into the field.

Shoulder bags are where its at!

My advice would be to get yourself a ThinkTank Retrospective™ 20

Thanks for reply!

lowepro runner 350 AW ftw! its a backpack, but if you have alot of crap to crarry its an amazing bag, you can fit your body with the 70-200 attached with no problem. its padded, waterproof. quality is amazing.

I agree (I use a Domke F2). Shoulder bags seem to be the least popular on this forum though. I guess they don't look as cool as a backpack or something...

Have you checked out Jessica Claire's Shootsacs? They are a shoulder bag w/ 6 compartments. Super easy to grab your lenses from it. They run around $200. The 70-200mm will still fit, but will be snug. I just got one and I love it, but I do a lot of portraiture work on location. Go to Shootsac.com

Almost anything ThinkTank makes is great if you want cloth. If you want a hard case then get a Pelican.

Agreed---When I'm ready to capture something on the fly, the last thing I want to do is take my bag off, unzip and try to rummage through my gear... Shoulder bags are the only thing that's worked for me! I have the Canon 200DG camera bag, and it works just fine for me. :)

THANK YOU so much for the advise and links. I appreciate it.
