Need help with D800e

Life is tough when one is not very smart. A few days ago, I replaced the the stock eyepiece with the DK19 and had no trouble doing so. The rubber eyecup came off and now I cannot get the ring off. I close the viewfinder shutter just as I did before but cannot turn the eyepiece. It is as if it is still locked. Can anyone offer some suggestions? Thanks.

Never mind, I tried the process again later and the eyepiece screwed off effortlessly, just as it had done the first time when I installed the DK19. I have no idea why as I did nothing differently.
