Need opinion on DSLR and lenses.

It depends on what kind of photography you want to do.

Honestly, I'd buy the camera with the kit lens and try it for a while. You can do a lot with that lens. After a month or more, you'll find that you want to go in one direction more than the other. Then buy that lens. After another month (or less) you'll find you want to do something else, etc.

It'd be a shame to pour out all that money for those lenses only to find that you never use one or two of them.

Good advice. You might find that really want to photograph wildlife or something, and you'll never use your 85, or 100mm macro. In that case you'd be better off saving for a 300 prime, or a 100-400. Or you might become addicted to landscapes, and decide you want a higher quality wide angle zoom. It's really best to save your money as long as you can, and spend it on what you really need. God knows, photography equipment is expensive, and buying high quality equipment does pay off, so save for what you really need.

thanks for the reply guys, so the 85mm f1.8 would be better for portrait work?how about the 50mm f1.8 would that be good for portraits? or would you have to get really close to the subjects with this lense?

The Canon 50 f1.8 is only $80 and is known to be an excellent lens. Regardless of what your choice, there is no reason not to have this lens at your disposal.
