Neutral Density Filters

I'm looking at ND filters and wondering if anyone can give me their experience with them. I have been looking at a variable ND filter....any info or suggestions on brands or types would greatly appreciated...pics would be helpful as well.

Lee, Singh-Ray, Heliopan and B+W are the better names. Cokin makes a decent consumer grade. They can suffer somewhat from colour-cast when shooting toward the sun, but that's generally controllable. As with all gear questions, quality costs, and something that's going to be in the optical path should be of the best quality you can afford. What is your budget?
