New Camera - $2000

I`ve got $2000 to spend. Don`t currently have a camera. Was thinking of 2 possible paths:

1) Fuji: I like the XPro1, but the recent upgrades on the X100s are interesting. Also knowing those will see the light of day on an Xpro1s/2, not sure if I`d be ok with the X100s or waiting on the XPro1s/2.

2) Nikon: Obvious 2 choices are either the D7100 or the D600. There`s not much of a price difference between the 2, so it seems the D600 would be the better choice?

I`d go with a prime lens - 50mm - either 1.8g or 1.4g - if the Nikon.

Any ideas?

If the size doesn't matter, I would say go for Nikon !

Actually there is a significant price difference. The D7100 is $1,197 at B&H and the D600 is $1,997. The D600 is going to leave you without cash for a lens if you only have $2,000.

Sorry - to clarify further - I live in Japan. While 99% of things here are more expensive than in USA (even if made here), it seems the D600 is cheaper here in Japan than in USA and there`s about a $350 price difference between the D7100 and D600.

Good point! That does make a difference

It's not necessarily a no-brainer, at least not to me. I personally don't have much interest in full-frame cameras, but that's just my preference. A lot will depend on what you want to shoot most.
