What's new

New camera, new lens....

Nice Morning Glory. I noticed you're processing these with LightZone. Are you processing NEF files or JPEG files? The processed contrast in these is really low.

Joe

I'm converting NEF to TIFF.....I agree about the contrast....trying to learn how to better process.....just as an aside, they were shot in early morning shade.....any suggestions? TIA....

I can help with LightZone. Put the Morning Glory NEF in Dropbox or similar and I'll send you an LZN file to show you how I'd process it.

Thanks, Joe. I'm brand new to Dropbox, but, I it appears that I've put the NEF in my dropbox. Now, how do I share it with you?

Got it.

Here's a link to the LZN file. If you copy it to the folder with the NEF file and then click on the LZN in Light Zone you'll see what I did: DSC_0134_lzn.jpg

Most critically I used a Relight and raised the contrast by changing the Blending Mode to Soft Light (also raised Detail).

The Soft Light blend raised saturation as well so I added a Hue/Saturation and knocked down the greens a little.

Increased Sharpening a little.

And then I added a ZoneMapper just as a vehicle to get another blend mode. I masked the flower/background and used a Multiply blend to darken the background.

One of the reasons I'm so fond of LZ is the blending mode access provided while converting a raw file. No other raw converter has it and it's really handy, especially in conjunction with the masking function.

Wow. Thank you, so much.....this will give me a start for learning post. I really appreciate you help.....

Joe, I get an error when clicking on the pic (Unrecognized GenericOperationType "RawAdjustments V2"....but my folowing your write up, I did the following from the original NEF.....no blending, but I'm learning ( I think ) might be a little heavy, but I'm still working with it....
