New Monitor

Hi all, first post here!

I am getting through college and have really enjoyed editing photos for a hobby so I am setting aside some money I don't have :lmao: and buying myself the Haswell (I hope) based i7 Mac Mini. I do hope to make some money off of the setup so I can't really work with my current monitor. I am currently running some crap 6 year old Viewsonic 24" 1080p $200 TN display from Costco which is awful. Therefore I have done much of my work on my XPS L502x's brilliant display but I really want something bigger for my stationary work.

My question:

Any recommendations for a good monitor for $600-800? I would like a 27" if possible and something that could do the occasional RTS and classic RPG (i.e. Diablo/Diablo II/Diablo III/Torchlight) without too much trouble. I was looking at the Dell Ultrasharps but several comments here and several other places have said they are not a good place to be for photography. Most information is pretty dated when talking about monitors with a price tag higher than $300 so I thought I could get some personalized help from the pros.
