New Photograher on the Forum - falling in love with Black and White

Well this is my first post, I found this site about a week ago and since have been lurking reading lots of threads, seeing lots of beautiful pictures.
I've always loved photography, but originally thought I was pretty great with my iPhone. My wife actually got me into real photography I want to say maybe a year ago. I started with auto photography mainly as it was one of my passions anyways, but have since fell in love with shooting everything and I really love the dynamic black and white can bring to a photo. Long story short figured I'd upload some of my favorites and open myself to some critique and criticism from all the wonderful talent on here.

Happy to be apart of this forum, and look forward to learning as much as possible.

These were all shot with a 6D, EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens. Also I know Sepia is not technically black and white, but I really like that photo as well, hope no one minds. :wink:

My favorite is the three women, clowning around, and the one of the mom and the small boy using some handheld device, probably for gaming. yeah, B&W, I enjoy it myself quite a bit. I find that it makes photo seem a bit more abstract, a bit more "artificially preserved", if you know what I mean...the colors have been removed, so the representational value of the color is gone...things become lines, and shapes, and masses, and patterns, not color areas. It's all kinda' fun!

Thank you, that's my favorite so far as well, that's my two aunts and my grandmother~ they're such characters

Thanks! hahah yeah, it's hard with kids, I was actually trying to get her to look at the camera and smile and she decided to walk away instead, but really ended up being an interesting shot when put in B&W

It really does, and it's so random where you may get a good shot, the one of the Mom and Son was actually just at crowded mall for a Nintendo game event, and when turned black and white it just turned out to be a really beautiful photo.

Great shots - my faves in order are 2(awesome), 1 and 5 but all of them each have their own little something, from the look in the eyes of the guy by the tree to the single drop earring on the little girl in the field. The only thing I'm not feeling is the oof foreground hand on the fourth - if the finger to the forehead is what the pic is about then it shouldn't be blown out.

I appreciate the feed back, I agree about the 4th, I wish the finger and top had been more in focus, but I still really love the shot personally. Maybe I should try to recreate it, just going to be difficult to get that same facial expression again.
