New Portrait one light set up. (New to me)

Good start, your a brave man. Give me a reflector and I wouldn't know what to do with it. Your daughter is cute and looks really happy.

It's very high fashion-y. I don't think it works so well for general family portraits, it might be useful as a niche technique for certain situations since it's not the most flattering lighting for a lot of people, because it does seem to accentuate lines in the face (such as eye bags and such.)

However, I think #2 is much more flattering for your particular model because it has depth, but the shadows under the cheeks and eyes aren't as dramatic.

I saw this last night but was mobile.. so typing was a PITA. lol I also agree with the others that I think this is going to be a really great technique once you figure out the reflector placement!
