Would love some cc on these images of my kiddos. I just bought this seamless paper and I'm just not too sure if I like this particular color. And yes, my oldest son is that white. lol

Also, I bought the 50mm 1.4 recently and I've really been having trouble with my focus. I have the Nikon d60 and it only has 3 focus points, they look a lot like this (rectangular shape though).....

+ space + space +

Anyway, I meter, take a pic, turn on my flash, put one of the focus points right on the eye, it still seems to not focus like it should. I'm just not sure if it's my camera with that lens, or something I'm doing, but I don't know what to do to fix it. I know when I've looked through other cameras the focus points are so extremely different with so many more focus points. I would love some opinions please!

the flash/light is too overexposed to be honest. Try ISO 200 and see how that works out and repost please
and horizon is off on #2 and a little on 4

I think they look ok with the exposure but I like bright edits, maybe a tad too hot but nothing major. These are child photos, they are supposed to be bright.
However, the focus seems off, very noticeable in the last one, you can tell the focus is on his pants, not face.
What were your settings?

I know, I'm really having trouble with my focus with this lens. Only having 3 focus points sucks. Not sure what to do to fix it using f/1.4?

Settings are f/1.4, 1/200, iso 400, flash

1.4 is going to be tough to get decent focus IMO, especially with a child. I bet if you went closer to 2.2-2.8 you would be way better focus!

I had a D60 and didn't have any problems with there only being 3 AF points.

Are you using AF-S or AF-C? Do you use back button focus by using the AE-L/AF-L button in AF-On mode (page 113, users manual)?

I'd guess you're having problems when you re-compose.

I never had issues until I got this lens. I'm on AF-A. No, I don't back button focus. Maybe that would work??

Re-composing may be the issue. I half way press the shutter re-compose then take the shot.... ?? idk...

I would say your focus issue are with the recomposing...
without knowing your settings, I can almost see where you focused and then recomposed.
The first one it looks good, I bet you used the center focus and just stayed there, but the others, I can see where you recomposed. The problem is you changed planes, someone told me to think of a flat sheet of paper or a string pointing off of your lens, when you recompose, think of that string, it can not get any longer, so it is going to focus where it can reach... I don't know if I am making any sense at all, but if you focus on the eyes (take the last picture) and then recompose and point your camera down, that string is not on the same plane or length, so it is going to focus on whatever is on that same length away, in this case, the crossed legs, see how they are a bit closer to the camera then the face?

To recompose, especially with a 1.4, you have a very narrow margin of space....

AF-A is re-focusing when you re-compose.

Put it in AF-S so it will only focus once (Single focus), and not re-focus as you re-compose.

You can set the back button to any of several settings, as indicated on page 113.

It would help if you were more familiar with how your camera functions. You can gain that understanding by reading the users manaual repeatedly and stopping and thinking about things you read in it you don't understand.

The camera and lens is a tool. If you don't know about all the tools features and functions, you can't use the tool effectively to persue your choosen craft.

You have to lock it before your recompose. Im not sure with your cam, but with my d5000 I press halfway, hold down AF lock and recompose.
