What's new

New to digital photography

I think you're off to a great start. But if you want to learn more about how to control the camera to do what you need it to do, you really need to read the manual and continue practicing like you are doing. If you're in auto, get out of auto. With a little practice, I think you'll be suprised with how easy it is. I got my wife started shooting in manual and it's all she shoots now, and she knows very little about photography (not much less than I do. :) ).

Thank you...Manuals and books are my next step! And yes, I have it set on Auto focus. I'll play to today with manual focus.

Auto exposure, not focus. I wouldn't recommend trying to use manual focus except for very specific applications. I would however recommend using only the middle focus point. Otherwise your camera is just guessing what you want to focus on, which is what happened with your deer shot.

Gotcha...well then, correction...AF is on but I'm not shooting in manual. I tend to leave it on AV. I switched it over to manual several times yesterday and got some halfway decent shots. I'll keep playing...sadly I'm working on a website today and it's driving me nuts being inside. :x
