New to forum and New to DSLR with a Nikon D3100

I just got this camera the other day. We went on the boat today and I took some pics. Can you tell me what you think or any tips. Thanks

#1 looks good to me but that black corner up in the right.
#2 Is either OOF or a really close crop. also you chopped off the birds tail =S

I agree except about the black corner up at the top which is actually green, and a leaf.

Nice compositions except you chopped off the seagull tail needlessly. Next up after grasping composition is basic post processing to get the photos to "pop" i.e looking the best they can be. I have found Correct color cast, correct camera distortion, correct color for skin tone, sharpening and cropping to be the overwhelmingly common adjustments.

Love the first one!!
The second one looks a bit out of focus!
Keep playing around!! I too have the D3100-the more I use it & play around with it the better I get with it!

Thank you everyone for your input! I am def going to cont to practice and play around with my new camera. I want to learn all I can about it. I'll get there, it'll just take some time. Thanks again.
