New (to me) Camera...

So I bought a Nikon D80 (gently used). I picked it up from Craig's List for $280.00 with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D prime lens.

I guess I'll have to give the GH1 I've been borrowing from my uncle back.

All you Nikon Shooters out there: give me your tips and hard earned helpful hints as this is my first Nikon camera.

I haven't really been able to extensively try it out yet.

I'm really excited.

Welcome to the family! Sit down with your camera and the user's manual and read it thoroughly. This can be tedious I know, but it's worth it. If you don't have the manual you can download it for free from various sources.

manuals are good reads. 50mm nikkor is a nice lens too. You'll have fun.

Prime lens are generally good for street photography, a few portrait photography.. You will have to buy more equipment depends on what you want to do.

Not a Nikon user, but as far as 50mm lenses are concerned, I think you'll love this lens. It's in a lot of photog's arsenals and it will seldom come off your camera in the beginning. I've shot plenty of portrait sessions with my 50mm 1.8 and the quality is amazing for such an inexpensive lens.
