New to Photography and wanting to Learn!

Hello all,

I've browzed around the site a bit and have seen some of the photography work on here....AMAZING! Someday I wish to be able to catch some images like yours! As I said above, I am very new to this. The only cameras I've used are the one on my phone which does take great shots and also a Sony cyber Shot. What It is that I am wanting to know is when investing in a good photography camera that will last for years, which is a better camera? Please let me know why? Thanks!!

As for what way to advance with photography there are quite a few potential pathways into the hobby. How far you and in what direction is impossible to say at a general level. What you need to do is give us some idea of what you want from the hobby itself - what direct you want to go in.

An easy way to start is to give an idea of what subjects and situations you like to and want to take photos in - as specific or general as you want but some idea of what your aims and intentions are can really help matters when it comes to suggesting a good pathway to advance and leave room to grow in the hobby.

In addition whilst I appreciate it can be tricky, giving us some idea of a budget helps as well. Some options can very quickly become very expensive; whilst other areas of photography can offer good pathways which can have a lower cost approach. You can always change your budget ideas as you hear more input and do more research, but a good starting point helps a lot

That is a tough question because electronics in general evolve so rapidly that someone's latest technology this year will be outdated next year.

The best way to approach this is to set a reasonable budget, purchase a name brand with plenty of support, and use it until something makes you change.

Lots of people would recommend a Nikon D90, even though they are now old, they are still very good, and you can get a used copy at discount.

Possibly anticipate the future ... hmm.

Invest in lenses that support Full Frame sensors ... that way if/when you upgrade the camera body later the lenses will not have to be replaced.

There is no one answer.

Most digital SLR camera's that you will encounter (new) will do the job for a newbie.

Most digital shooters upgrade their first camera shortly after.

Some digital SLR camera's have great compatibility with older lenses, even non-AF lenses ... Pentax and some Nikons.

An obsolete professional one. Because they're professional but obsolete.
