Hi all I am new to the forum and to street photography but thought I would show you some of my images.

I like this shot as the man is holding some flyers that say Jokes and the lady in the back ground has a big grin on her face. The photo below worked really well because the man is wearing glasses and in the window in the back ground there are posters of models wearing glasses and it forms a really good contrast.

Welcome to the site. I agree with Jennifer on the second one. The first one is okay, but he is looking directly at the camera.

I'd say you caught the moment more in the second photo, and the fact that both subjects are looking at the camera mean these are somewhat different from the usual more candid shots, I still like them.

Thanks for your thoughts, I agree the second one is a stronger shot. I will post some more of my efforts soon.

Thanks Kevin

Welcome to the forum. It is always nice to see another street shooter from UK. As for your images , these are street portraits. The first guy is not really interesting to me and the girl right behind him is distracting, so I would relegate this image to the snapshot category. The second one is better in my book. The guy stands out with his t-shirt , camouflage and headphones that look strange for the man his age. But this is still a straightforward simple composition, so you just shot the guy but did not add to the image anything that would make it special. The potential that I see here is those windows with posters of people wearing glasses. This is potentially an interesting background for a street photo. But here it is too far away and small and do not really interact/act as a background that can be juxtapose against a real person. My point is - there are lots of interesting, strange, weird, beautiful people in the street , but you have to create an appealing composition around them for your street shot to stand out. Anyway , you have the nerve to shoot strangers in the face and this is good :D, because most people here are too shy to do it. Would love to see more of your photos.

Thanks as always for your thoughts. I am brand new to street photography so am still getting together the nerve to photography strangers. I will bear composition in mind and try and take more time in waiting for the shot after framing what i want.

Thanks

Try to go beyond the homogeneity of the modern everyday. Look up, look down; find the other stuff - overlooked detail. Use every method: window reflections, motion blur/slow shutter, prefocussing, shooting from the hip, positioned camera on self-timer...all things.

As always thanks for the thoughts. I am off for the next two weeks so plan to be out doing some more street photography.
