Firstly i would like to say hello just joined this forum. I am looking at getting my first SLR camera my first question is im looking at either a canon or nikon camera. Why do the nikon cameras seem to have a lower MP than the canons? I am thinking of getting the canon 7D or the new nikon D3100 i would be taking mostly scenery and animal photos. And would be upgrading the lens at a later date i would like some info as im new to this thank you john.

I don't think the Canon 7D and Nikon D3100 are really in the same class, it's probably not valuable to compare them to each other?

Having just made a camera purchase decision myself, I feel confident in advising you to spend LOTS of time with Google. You're the one who will have to live with your decision, not us. Read, read, read!!... and good luck.
